Country like India, Every region has its type of dupatta which reflects their local craftsmanship and historical influences. I remember my aunt’s old phulkari dupatta which she used to wear, it was handcrafted by my grandmother and gifted on her wedding.
Specificity in the stitching was incredible won’t find in machine-made pieces. In ancient time, women used to spend months creating these dupattas for occasions like weddings and big celebrations. Phulkari dupattas holds the same charm as it used to be combining tradition with timeless beauty.
2. Bandhani Dupatta –
Origin: Gujarat and Rajasthan
Material: Cotton, Silk
Bandhani are also called Bandhej is a traditional tie and dye technique where small portions of the fabric are tied tightly with threads before being dipped into vibrant dyes. These dupattas are lightweight makes them perfect wear during hot weather. This is the reason behind its popularity in Gujarat and Rajasthan.
3. Chikankari Dupatta – Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh –
Origin: Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh
Material: Cotton, Chiffon, Georgette
Chikankari dupattas originated from the elegant nawabi city of Lucknow. These dupattas are prepared following the floral and paisley format of designing which makes it looks graceful. Fabrics like chiffon or georgette are used for crafting these dupattas which fits best to be wear during hot summer days. Chikanari dupattas can be wear for casual day out as well as in a formal events.
4. Banarasi Silk Dupatta –
Origin: Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh
Material: Silk
