The Birth of Dior

In the year 1946, Europe was struggling recovering from the effects of World War II. Christian Dior, A French couturier with an eye for romance and glamour introduces brand DIOR. Women’s clothing was functional, with boxy silhouettes and muted designs dominating wardrobes.

Then came Dior’s debut collection in 1947, famously coined as the New Look.” With tightened waist lines, full skirts, and an exaltation of the feminine form, this radical outfit was a great contrast to the sleekness of war-time fashion. It not only redefined women’s fashion but also restored joy and luxury to the industry. Vogue’s editor-in-chief at the time, Carmel Snow, captured the essence perfectly when she said, It’s such a New Look!” The phrase stuck—and the legend of Dior was born.

Too many leadership changes over time – Marc Bohan and Gianfranco Ferré joined the company and inject more value to the brands by adding more innovation in the products line.
